Milton resident Gregory Sweeney is facing multiple charges following a police pursuit on Monday.
According to a press release from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, Sweeney was pulled over by a deputy for multiple traffic violations on Green Rowell Road in Jay.
Sweeney, who was driving a pickup truck at the time, then became aggressive and physically struck the deputy during the traffic stop.
While inside the vehicle, Sweeney then fled the scene with the deputy in pursuit. In the release, Sweeney disregarded all attempts to stop.
During the pursuit, Sweeney’s vehicle struck another deputy’s vehicle causing damage to the deputy’s cruiser. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Neal Kennington Road and Lewis Road, when Sweeney’s vehicle became stuck in a ditch near the roadway.
Sweeney was then taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail with a bond of $95,500.
In addition to the traffic violations, Sweeney is facing two charges of resisting arrest, battery, aggravated battery and possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted Florida felon.
