“It’s all of Bagdad and Milton,” said Sally Miller, the event’s organizer. “I think it’s worth seeing.”
Thirty-four pieces of art are on display at the gallery from the Oct. 25 event, which invited local artists to paint landscapes while outside.
“Plein air painting is where you do it outside, you don’t fix it when you come home, you just go and do it,” Miller said.
Twenty-five local artists participated in the event, Miller said. All artwork, including the framing had to be completed by 3 p.m. that afternoon.
The gallery from the paint out, which will be on display through the Thanksgiving holiday, features artwork of the scenic Blackwater River and some of the historical landmarks in the Bagdad and Milton area.
Each artwork was judged by Lyda Toy from the University of West Florida’s art department.
Many of the art pieces are for sale with 20 percent of proceeds going to support the gallery.
Artists from across Santa Rosa County and neighboring Pensacola participated in the event, Miller said.
East Milton resident Barbara Kirkland said she enjoyed painting out with friends. Kirkland, a long time painter, said she enjoyed painting the Creel residence in Bagdad.
“Being outside is fabulous,” she said. “It’s a very uplifting experience.”
Kirkland said she enjoyed working alongside other artists.
“There is so much talent in our area,” she said.
Fellow Milton resident Jean Schuler also just enjoyed the experience.
“Although the weather was nice,” Schuler said. “It’s just being with friends and other artists.”
Both Kirkland and Schuler plan to participate in next year’s Paint Out.
“There is nothing else I am looking forward to more,” Kirkland said.
Miller said she would like to see more community involvement for next year.
The Dragonfly gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. The gallery is located at 6555 Caroline Street.
