Newspaper clipping reminds us God is the only authority

Dear Editor,

I just ran across a newspaper clipping, date unknown, which blessed my soul. Election time approaches. It’s worth sharing. The headline read ‘First black judge praises the Lord,’ Fresno, California. It was no ordinary ceremony when Hugh Goodwin was sworn into office as Fresno’s first black judge. “If you don’t want to be caught by the Holy Spirit, you’d better get up and leave now,” he told the 500 persons at the ceremony. The article reads ‘Goodwin held weekly prayer sessions at his office when he was a public defender. The audience clapped in rhythm to a hymn by the Second Baptist Church choir and there were shouts of ‘amen’ as the church pastor, Rev. Matthew B. Daw read Bible selections.’ The article said, “After donning his robes Friday, Goodwin, 54, said he hoped all judges and government officials would begin their days with prayer and recognize God as the only authority.” Wow! I would have loved to be there. God bless him et al with guts like his. I agree with his admonition. If all recognized God as the only authority, our nation would be blessed instead of this mess, Hallelujah! God bless us all as only He can. Maranatha!
