The 1st annual walk and motorcycle ride for suicide awareness and prevention

On Saturday October 11 at 12 p.m., a 3 mile walk and a 25 mile motorcycle ride fundraiser will take place to benefit survivors of suicide. Depression is a disease.

Depression affects millions of people in the USA. A person dies every 13.7 minutes from suicide, claiming the lives of 38,000 people a year. There are 750,000 attempts a year. They all have families that are left with questions like: why? Who is going to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day? What did i do or say? What could I have done to help? Who am I going to grow old with? The list goes on and on.

Now it is time for the question: Where can I go for help? In the saddest, helpless, and downright hardest times in a person’s life, I have lost friends and family members to this disease. People just need to know that there is someone else that has been where they are. Survivors of Suicide and Santa Rosa Youth Groups are here so that we can help people to prevent this from happening again and to help by being a friendly, caring hand through the overwhelming pain. The ride will start at Carpenters Park on Munson Hwy and ending at Russell Harbor Landing (Old River Road). The routes are as follows:

Walkers will walk from Munson Hwy to Stewart St, down to Hwy 90 and to the end of Russell Harbor Landing. Riders will start at Carpenters Park to Stewart St, down to Hwy 90, over to Woodbine Road to 5 points, Berryhill to Willing Street and over to the end of Russell Harbor Landing.

$10 per walker; $10 per rider; $ 5 per passenger; $10 per person for all;  A raffle will take place
