
Saturday, deputies from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office responded to the Navarre Causeway in reference to a possible drowning at approximately 7:30 a.m. Authorities recovered the body of Joetta Goss from Louisiana near the smaller of the two bridges on the causeway. They also recovered a kayak from the vicinity, according to reports. Goss was last seen kayaking late Friday night to early Saturday morning. Reports said alcohol is believed to be involved pending a toxicology report. Reports also said the victim was not wearing a life vest.
Monday, around 2:30 p.m., according to reports, deputies from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office responded to a possible drowning along with a Lifeguard helicopter. Reports said the swimmer, Roderick M. Maybee of Baton Rouge on vacation with family, was subsequently pronounced deceased while at the hospital. Detectives found the victim was last seen swimming in the Navarre beach area (Navarre Towers section of Navarre Beach) where he was being carried away into the Gulf, most likely from a rip current. Lifeguards and fire department crews responded to the area where they were able to locate the swimmer. Upon arrival at the shore, CPR was in progress and the victim was immediately transported via Lifeguard helicopter. Reports said there are no indications of foul play now.
