Members of Chipley Garden Club, Wausau Garden Club and Washington County Master Gardeners attended Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. Short Course North “Month-by-Month” in Milton, Thursday and Friday, August 14-15.   The twelve hour intensive training was jointly sponsored by FFGC-District I, University of Florida/IFAS and Friends of the Gardens of Northwest Florida.

Chipley Garden Club 2nd Vice President/Master Gardener Linda Pigott commented, “We look forward to this course every year!  It is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest horticultural issues in a group of like-minded folks who love gardening.”

Topics of study for this year’s course included Using Camellias in Your Garden, Bulbs for NW Florida, What’s Wrong with my Lawn: Diagnosing Problems, Stormscaping: Hurricane Preparedness, Pruning Deciduous Trees, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Azaleas, Palms of Florida, and Growing Herbs.   Participants also enjoyed a hands-on propagation activity and two “Fun with Flowers” design demonstrations (Fall and Christmas).

Roxanne Bush, Wausau Garden Club President/Master Gardener, stated, “We always leave this annual event with a head full of new information.   It is very enjoyable – discussions, lectures, video and slide presentations – and we’re already looking forward to next year’s course!”

FFGC District I Director/Event Organizer Tina Tuttle remarked, “This is our sixth year of providing this opportunity.  We make a concentrated effort to provide most exciting, best qualified and entertaining speakers available in a wide variety of horticultural and gardening fields.  We offer ‘something for everyone’ and cover a least one of everyone’s ‘favorite’ gardening activity.  ”
