Speak Out August 2

Yes, I live near Avalon Blvd and travel that road often. I’m concerned and amazed at the lack of work taking place on that small, unfinished portion. Today is Monday, July 28. I travel to that road mid morning, early afternoon, mid afternoon, and late afternoon, and have found not one person working despite the fact that it has not rained a drop all day. We previously received updates in your paper from DOT on the status of the work and progress. We haven’t received anything like that in a long time and I’m wondering why we can’t get an update from DOT on the work that is taking place and what we can expect in the future as far as completion. Thanks.

Hello, I just have a small suggestion. When you cover new businesses or existing businesses in the local area, such as you did on the Southern Generator article in Saturday’s paper, could you please list the address, location of the business so if we want to find the business to go to it, we would know where to go to? I’ve noticed in the past when you cover businesses you don’t ever include the address. That would be helpful. Thank you.

Editor’s note: Thank you for your call. This was an over site on our part. We will include this pertinent information in the future.

Monday 8:12 p.m.

Hey, this is Dennis. The Jews are the apple of God’s eye. God is in control. His will be done. Those who curse Israel will be cursed. Those who bless Israel will be blessed. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Yes, this is Bill. I was reading the letter by Edward Miller about deputies’ pay. I agree whole-heartedly with his comments about their pay. Sheriff Wendell Hall and his department heads need to cut their pay in half and give those savings to the lower-ranking deputies. Let’s not forget many of these deputies are taking home patrol cars. If they cut that program out, think of all the savings they could pass on to the lower ranking deputies. Have a good day.

Yes, this is Joe. I just want to say I wish the Tea Party or some group in Santa Rosa County would start a petition to have an amendment change on the way we vote for our county commissioners and school board. I wish they’d change it from county wide to voters voting for their constituents in each district that way the county commissioners and school board would be more receptive to their own constituents in each district.

Yes, this is Jesse from Pace. I was wondering, probably me and a lot of other fishermen, what’s the deal with protecting alligator gar? They are nothing but a menace, a nuisance and the Sandy River’s full of them. The river’s full of them things. The other day my buddies caught a 3lb catfish. By the time we got it in the bank the whole tail was gone. Everywhere you see on the river are alligator gar. I was wondering, we need to have an alligator gar tournament. Some of them are 3 ft long. I was just wondering what the deal is in protecting them when they’re eating up all our fish.

Yeah, this is Bobby. I was reading your article in the paper about restarting the bus service. They already tried it and they discontinued it because of poor ridership, not enough money, and they always say the federal government might pay but the federal government doesn’t have enough money. They get it from China. If we can’t afford it, we can’t afford it. You need to come up with something different. There’s no way you’re going to service everybody with a bus. You’d have to have 15 buses running all over the county. At the same time, there are not enough people going to each place to justify it. You need to think of maybe subsidizing, or giving somebody a little help and let them ride a cab, or let some volunteers help. If you start another bus service, it’ll be there forever and be another drain on the county. Thank you.
