
The Jay Area Chamber of Commerce met Monday, June 2 in the social hall of
Jay Community Center.
Guests were Debbie Gunnoe, running for Santa Rosa County School Board, District 3 and Margarita Vazquez, Regional Vice President of Primerica.
Rachel Godwin discussed the services of Hartmann, Blackmon & Kilgore, P. C., an accounting, taxes, and consulting firm. They are celebrating their 20th year.
The Military Community update meeting and Military Appreciation Breakfast was held May 30 in Sikes Hall, NAS Whiting Field. Walt Reese, Navy League introduced the Sailor's of the Quarter and their commanding officers. Three received the Sailor's of the Quarter awards. Each received a letter of commendation from U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller and State Rep. Doug Broxson. The City of Milton, Okaloosa Gas and Navarre Chamber gave gift certificates. Pete Gandy, Santa Rosa County Military Liaison, stated that the military is a great boost to our economy by their spending on homes, groceries, vehicles, clothes,
Taxes. Their families attend our schools, mentor in our schools, and clean up our rivers.
50 civic leaders from Santa Rosa County visited Washington, D. C. recently to discuss BRAC and the future of Whiting Field. Gandy said Whiting Field will not be affected by size reduction in the immediate future, according to Senators Nelson, Rubio, and U. S. Rep. Jeff Miller.
There will be a 4th of July Celebration. Sara Ellis, My Father's Arrow,
will take charge of the event. The celebration will take place in Bray-Hendricks City Park, Jay. Volunteers are needed. The Town of Jay will hold their famous fireworks at dark. Florida State Rep. Mike Hill will speak at the July 7 Jay Chamber meeting. The Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce donated $750 to the Northwest Florida Ministerial Association. Heather Stout, Baptist Hospital, said Santa Rosa Medical Center has cut wait time for appointments; usually 24 hours. The Santa Rosa County Disaster Preparedness Guide was distributed. The next Jay Chamber meeting will be held July 7, at noon in the social hall of the Jay Community Center.
