Shots fired, bat swung at animal control truck

Shots were fired on Hamilton Lane, Pace Monday and two men were arrested. An animal control officer was dispatched to 5100 block of Hamilton Lane regarding loose dogs. Once the officer was at the location and had retrieved the animals, reports said Cody Tompkins, 20, Pace, and Dylan Sizemore, 16, Pace both approached the vehicle, yelling and cursing at the officer, indicating they wanted the dogs back. Reports said Tompkins and Sizemore began to pull on the vehicle doors, trying to gain access to the vehicle. Deputies reported rocks and sticks being thrown at the vehicle to gain access. Reports said Tompkins retrieved a 12 gauge shotgun from the home and shot two times; Sizemore used a baseball bat to beat the back of the vehicle while Tompkins jumped up and down on the back bumper.  Reports said the officer inside the Animal Control vehicle was extremely scared and tried to exit the area. Deputies report he was able to get away uninjured. Both men were arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon without intent to kill, firing weapon in public or on residential property, resisting officer without violence and were taken to Santa Rosa County Jail, held with $6,000 bond.
