Campaign benefits SRC 4-H

Tractor Supply Company (TSC), in partnership with National 4-H Council, recently announced the record-breaking fundraising results of its spring 2014 Paper Clover Campaign. TSC raised $787,769 during the 12-day national in-store fundraiser, according to Rob Hoskins, TSC media contact, breaking the record for most monetary donations during the four-year collaboration. TSC raised almost $4 million for 4-H programs across the country through Paper Clover Campaigns in just four years, according to Hoskins.

The event ran April 23 to May 4. Shoppers at TSC and Del's Feed and Food Supply had the opportunity to purchase a paper clover for a dollar or more at checkout. Prudence Caskey, Santa Rosa County 4-H agent, said 60 cents of every dollar donation at the Tractor Supply store on Caroline Street went to SRC 4-H, 10 cents went to the state, and 30 cents went to the National 4-H Council. "Checks are never more than $200," she said. According to Caskey, the spring 2013 campaign raised $138, $173 for fall of 2013, and $157 for spring of this year.

Caskey said SRC 4-H is looking to establish a club in the north end but said SRC 4-H always needs sponsorship. She said past members who experienced individual sponsorship are known to pay it forward. Caskey said a woman whose children, grown now, were sponsored in the past was able this year to sponsor two for a trip.

In August 2012, Navy Federal Credit Union purchased the Langley Bell 4-H Center in Beulah for $3.6 million. For Escambia County 4-H, $2 million went into an endowment fund with the interest supporting 4-H. The rest went for construction. Caskey said SRC 4-H is separate from the Escambia County 4-H club and received no gain from this deal. "We are not them," she said.
