Area farmers are in the fields planting their peanut and cotton crops attempting to make up for missed time due to the recent rainfall. “Agriculture damage wasn’t quite as bad as we had originally thought it was just a week ago,” stated Santa Rosa County Extension Director Mike Donahoe. “The north end of the counties rainfall was varied, some areas received ten plus inches and some with as few as two inches of water.”
Many farmers are finding that some of their fields are in need of repair from erosion and are currently still too wet to sustain the weight of agriculture equipment while other fields are dried out and already producing dust storms. “Over all our major agriculture areas are in good shape,” continued Donahue.
