Three Rivers Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held their monthly meeting on April 12, 2014 at the St Rose of Lima Church Parish Hall in Milton. 1st Vice Regent Janice Malone called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests. Refreshments were prepared by hostesses Carolyn Pepa, Rita Takeuchi and Jan Davis.
Gail Allred, DAR Good Citizens Committee chairman announced the three high school essay winners: Rachel Marie Baker from Milton High, Kayla Lauren Flowers from Jay High, and Gregory Chase Norton from Central High (not present). Kayla Flowers read her essay which was selected as the best essay. Gail Allred then presented Rachel Baker and Kayla Flowers with their DAR Good Citizens Awards and checks.
1st Vice Regent Janice Malone told the history of the Berry Schools. Guest Catherine Takeuchi, daughter-in-law of member Rita Takeuchi, was a graduate of the Berry College.
The National Defense report was given by Elaine McDaniel, the Flag Minute by Mary Riggs and the American Indian Minute by Carolyn McDuffie.
Historic Preservation Chairman, Jan Davis, introduced Thomas Scott, a crew chief on Air Force One during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. He gave a very informative presentation on the history of the Presidential planes and showed members a seatbelt used by Ronald Reagan, coasters which were once given as gifts, and a letter presented to him for being on the White House staff.
Items were brought to the meeting for Fisher House and Wounded Military Men and Women. Cash donations were also made for snacks for the USO, Regional Airport.
