Jay High, Central High, and Rocky Bayou Christian School began their 2014 track season with their first competitive district meet held at Jay High on Feb. 20.
The Royal’s Girl’s and Boy’s both finished the season debut as the first place overall teams. The Lady Royals finished with 80 points for a first place finish. Central girl’s finished 2nd with 60 points followed by Rocky Bayou with a team total of 23 points.
For the Boy’s the Royals finished with an impressive 84 point first place team finish. Rocky Bayou ended the meet in 2nd place team finish with 32 points followed by the Central Jaguars with a team score of 19.
In the boy’s events the Royal’s Micah Kemp swept each of his entered events, with a 5:04 mile run and an 800m run of 2:16 for another first place finish.
Jay’s Boy’s Relay teams also shined for the first meet of the season running away with first place finishes in the 4x800m, 4×100, and the 4x400m relays.
Central’s Makayla Simmons swept the girl’s shot-put throw with a throw of 27’6” and also threw an 83’8” first place discus throw. Jaguar Brittney Amey captured two heavily fought for first place finishes as well in the 100 Meter Dash with a 13.35 finish and also in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles with a 52.51 win. Amey's finish was over 2 seconds faster than the second place finisher.
The Royal’s Carissa Mulford also succeeded in capturing two first place finishes. She won the girl’s long jump with a jump of 30’3” and also was the lone brave heart to step up for the 100/110 hurdles finishing with a 18.12 time.
