Pace Patriots Pitcher Austin Brooks has started the baseball season off with two wins under his belt. Brooks opened the first inning against Tate High with three up and three down.. Pace defeated the Tate Aggies.
Big wins for area schools
Despite the chilly nip in the evening air area baseball is in full swing for Pace, Milton, Jay and Central High Schools. This week all four-area varsity squads will get down to busy as they begin their pursuit of a winning season.
Patriot Baseball
The Pace Patriots Baseball is blazing early in the season as they have already knocked off a host of opponents.
Pace beat Pine Forest in a home conference game on Feb. 18 10-2. Chandler Burgess went 2 for 2 swinging the bat and also capitalized on 3 RBIS along with the contributions of teammate Colby Sweat who hit 1-3 with 2 RBIS.
Pitching for the Red, White and Blue and winning his second season victory from the mound was Austin Brooks. Brooks who is credited with 3 strikeouts pitched 5 innings gave up 2 hits and 1 run for the Patriots to dominate on their home field.
On Feb. 20, Pace continued their swinging streak beating the Tate Aggies 5-0.
MiltonPanthers
After a two loss start to their season the district 1-6A Panthers evened the season record by putting away conference rivals Escambia 7-2 and Navarre 2-1.
In their first district win, the Panthers saw their starting pitcher Chase Shell hum the baseball across the plate for five innings as he struck out four Escambia Gators.
Making use of their bats with some outstanding hits were Panthers Shell, Cody Lowe, Bryton Melvin, Brenden Blevins and Justin Barr.
Lowe went 2-4 with 3 RBIS.
Shell is leading the Panthers with stolen bases this season with 2 followed by Lowe with 1 stolen base.
Blevins has a batting average of .444 after participating in 4 games. He has been to bat 9 times and has 4 hits.
The Panthers will host the Crestview Bulldogs on Feb. 27 at 6:30 P.M.
Jay Royals
Pitcher Thomas Fisher led the first four innings of the first game of the Royal’s 2014 season by allowing Pensacola Christian School only five runners to reach base; one of which was from an error and the other four were from walks.
The fifth inning saw teammate Hunter Williams to the mound to finish the Jay no-hitter against P.C.A. that ended with an 11-1 win. Only seeing one inning from the mound was enough for Williams as he struck out two of the Crusaders.
Jay controlled the fifth and final inning by bringing in 7 runs. Tate Upton, 1-2 had a triple hit while A.J. Nash and Zach Carnley each had 2 RBIS. Carnley was 2-2 in the game Nash also went 3-3 at the plate.
The Royals will host a non-conference game against Holmes County (Bonifay) on Feb. 27 at 5:00.
