T.D. Allman, J. Earle Bowden, John James Clune Jr., Margo Stringfield, Jacquelyn Wilson, and Maureen Keillor all to talk about city and sign books
Pensacola, Fla.(January 22, 2014): On Saturday, March 1st, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Barnes & Noble Pensacola will host a Celebrate Historic Pensacola Day. History lovers and people who want to learn more about our city and state are encouraged to attend. Beginning at 1:00 p.m., speakers will be talking about their books and our history.
T.D. Allman is the author of well-known books on Florida, “Finding Florida” and “Miami: City of the Future.” He is perhaps better-known worldwide as a foreign correspondent, for his articles in “Vanity Fair,” “National Geographic,” “Rolling Stone” and “The New Yorker,” and for his interviews with various world leaders and chiefs of state.
J. Earle Bowden is a local historian and preservationist. Perhaps best-known for helping establish the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Bowden has authored several books about Pensacola.
Margo Stringfield, professor of archaeology, and John James Clune, Jr., professor of history, both teach at the University of West Florida. The two authors collaborated to write “Historic Pensacola,” using a wide range of historical and archaeological records to provide a unique look into the daily lives of the people who endured hardship, disease and hurricanes to settle the Gulf Coast.
Jacquelyn Wilson is a fifth-generation Pensacolian who currently works for the Pensacola Historical Society and has written two books on the local area. “Remembering Pensacola”and “Historic Photos of Pensacola” provide valuable and revealing historical retrospectives of the growth and development of Pensacola.
Maureen Keillor is the co-author of “Naval Air Station Pensacola.” The book chronicles the history of NAS Pensacola, the world's first naval aeronautical station, from January 20, 1914 when the USS Mississippi (BB-23) arrived in Pensacola with seven aircraft, nine officers, and 23 men.
