Some things just make sense. Most people pick up the yearly almanac and read it to see what the new year's weather will look like for long range plans. Some folks swear by it.
This year's Farmer's Almanac projects 2014 to be about average, although the winter will be colder than normal, with below-normal precipitation. The coldest periods will occur in early to mid- and late December and in early to mid- and late February.
April and May will be slightly rainier than normal, with above-normal temperatures, especially in the north. Summer will be much hotter than normal, with near-normal rainfall despite a hurricane threat in early to mid-July. The hottest periods will occur from mid-June through early July and in early August. The Almanac predicts September and October will be drier than normal, with near-normal temperatures.
