Dakota Crank was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death

Eric Young has died from injuries he received in a hit and run crash on Nov. 26.

An update was issued today (Dec. 2) saying Young died on Friday morning, Nov. 29, at Sacred Heart Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

FHP reports say the accident happened when a 2007 Chrysler Van driven by 23-year-old Dakota Crank, Pensacola, hit a car stopped at an intersection, forcing the 2006 Kia four door into a 2006 Ford Pickup. The driver of the Kia was Young.

Both people in the Kia, from Milton, were listed in serious condition following the crash. Troopers say the accident happened at East Gate Road and Munson Highway.

Reports say Crank was driving the van, traveling east on East Gate Road when he came upon the Kia, driven by Young, 20, Milton, and occupied by Kimberly D. Apperson, 30, Milton.

Young’s Kia was behind the Ford truck driven by Joseph A. Winslow, 41, Milton.

When the van hit the Kia, Young’s vehicle was forced into Winslow’s truck. The Kia came to rest facing north on East Gate Road.

FHP says Crank fled the scene after hitting the car. He was found in Pensacola and arrested, charged with careless driving; leaving the scene of a crash w/injuries; driving while license suspended/revoked and driving while license suspended/revoked with critical injuries.

Young and Apperson were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition, where Young died on Friday.
