Maloney convicted of sexual battery on juvenile, sentenced to 25 years

A Milton man has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison following his conviction of sexual battery of a 14 year old girl.

State Attorney Bill Eddins issued a release saying Russell Maloney was sentenced by Circuit Judge John Simon Friday. Maloney was convicted on Sept. 11 of sexual battery by a person in familial or custodial authority, according to Eddins.

The crimes occurred between November 2011 and January 2012, sheriff’s reports state.

Maloney, 34, became a suspect after the victim told her youth pastor that Maloney had sexual intercourse with her at his home in Milton. Sheriff’s reports say there were three separate incidents of sexual battery.

The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office and Department of Children and Families became involved in the investigation. Eddins says Maloney confessed his actions to Detective Scott Jones and was arrested.

In addition to 25 years in prison, Eddins says Malony will serve five years of sex offender probation.
