Autism Pensacola Inc.’s fundraising walk, Steps for Autism, will hold a kick-off party for its 2014 event on Thursday, November 7. We are currently seeking business sponsors and walk team leaders. Interested sponsors or team leaders may contact API at 434-7171 for more information.
Steps for Autism is scheduled for March 29, 2014, at the Pensacola State College main campus track. The mission of this walk is to raise funds to improve safety, increase awareness, and provide quality of life programs for those living with autism in Northwest Florida. The walk, which has previously been held in the fall, has been moved to the spring to kick off Autism Awareness Month in April.
Funds raised from last year’s walk made possible API’s 2nd annual Safety Conference for first responders. Over 20 organizations were represented at this fall’s conference, which provided training for law enforcement and other emergency personnel on how to effectively interact with individuals with autism.
API’s April media campaign was also made possible because of Steps for Autism. By raising awareness and acceptance in our community, API seeks to create a safer environment for individuals with autism to live and work.
Steps for Autism has also enabled Autism Pensacola to provide safety binders to families living with autism at no charge. These binders provide families with a little peace of mind, knowing that they have critical information gathered in one location in case of an emergency.
Autism Pensacola serves both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, and is dedicated to supporting parents and professionals with the best answers regarding diagnosis, education, and treatment of people with autism.
Autism Pensacola is a 501(c)3 organization.
