Community joined Milton High School in support of new drivers

Learning to drive is a big step in life's journey. On Saturday, Oct. 19  Milton High School will hosted a Celebrate My Drive teen driver safety event, showing support for teen drivers, helping them stay safe as the embark on the road ahead. Celebrate My Drive aims to bring Milton leaders, schools and parents in support of new, teen drivers.

"It's not about State Farm," said Lori Brabham, an agent in Ken Kincaid's Office. "It's about safe teen driving."

The  event marks the second annual Celebrate My Drive event, according to Brabham. Teens had the opportunity to put on special goggles that skew the vision, simulating a drunken state, and try to drive a golf cart through an obstacle course.

The event is sponsored in part by the Milton Bakery, Coca Cola, AT&T, the Milton Police Department and Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office. Attendees were provided free food and refreshments.

Kell Recovery in Milton brought a rolled-over vehicle to the event, showing the true impact of distracted driving. Teens were given the challenge to play games or try to text through the obstacle course.

As part of the company's Celebrate My Drive program, State Farm offers teens across the U.S. and Canada the opportunity to learn more about safe driving, win grant money for their school, and be one of two schools to win a free concert by Grammy award winner Kelly Clarkson.

State Farm is amplifying the conversation around teen driver safety by hosting Celebrate My Drive events in communities across the U.S. and Canada. The event will have giveaways, speakers, community partners, entertainment and interactive driving games. State Farm and MHS are encouraging residents to attend in support of teens learning how to drive.

Communities can also help MHS win prizes by committing to be safe drivers once daily between Oct. 18 and 26 at www.celebratemydrive.com. The top 100 high schools with the safest driving commitments will be awarded grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. The top two schools win a private concert by Kelly Clarkson.
