Still going on: Jay Peanut Festival, Butterfly Fest, Sweet Season Farms Corn Maze Still Planned

Coastal Encounters Cancelled; Oktoberfest Postponed

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla.–The prospect of Tropical Storm Karen hitting the northern Gulf Coast region has prompted the cancellation of the annual Coastal Encounters at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station and the postponement of the first Oktoberfest celebration at Juana’s Pagodas on Navarre Beach.

Organizers for the popular Jay Peanut Festival and its more than 180 vendors are still planning to hold the event 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and the Sweet Season Farms Corn Maze will be open for its popular "Flashlight Maze" from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. tonight and the regular maze and farm activities 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday. Holland Farms and Pumpkin Patch will be open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday. The Stokes family will open the Holley Hill Pottery and Art Studio from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and are opening the kiln, weather permitting at noon.

Other events still planned include:

Oct. 4-5- Panhandle Community Theatre “Salute to the Troops and Imogene 100th Birthday Celebration”;  Oct. 4-5 – Monarch Madness at the Panhandle Butterfly House; Oct. 5 – Depot Days at the West Florida Railroad Museum;  Oct. 5 – Arcadia Mill Archeology Series Oct. 5 – City of Milton Riverwalk 5k Run; Oct. 5 – Cambridge Farm Tours Oct. 5 – Clear Creek Farm Tours; and Oct. 5-6 – Navarre Beach Pier Kid’s Fish Free; Oct. 5 –Sand Dollar Saturday (Open) and Local Marketplace (subject to weather.)

“The Coastal Encounters also included the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary and the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center and all three entities had to prepare for the possibility of a storm,” said tour coordinator Karen Harrell. “They are looking at possibly rescheduling at another date in October if they can.”  

The Oktoberfest celebration will be moved to Oct. 12 and proceeds will benefit the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station.
