Burklow Pharmacy under investigation for possible fraud

Burklow Pharmacy was closed for business while a search warrant was executed

Law enforcement agencies conducted a search of the Burklow Pharmacy on Woodbine Road in Pace, looking to confirm or deny allegations of fraud, according to authorities.

Captain David Lindsay of the Division of Insurance Fraud said there have been multiple complaints that people have been billed for services not rendered. The department was initially alerted of the allegations by a detective with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office.

In a coordinated effort, officials from the Department of Financial Series Division of Insurance Fraud, with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, executed a financial search of the pharmacy today.

Lindsay said the investigation has been ongoing for more than a year.

The pharmacy was closed for business for several hours while officials conducted the search. A search of the owner's home, Steven Burklow, was also conducted. Information was gathered from both sites and will be presented to the State Attorney's Office for further review. Felony criminal charges could be filed after review of the information gathered.

Customers were told to check back later in the day, while the investigation was being performed. Authorities said the pharmacy would likely reopen the same day.
