S.S. Dixon Primary School receives $500 to promote math; sciences

The Emerald Coast Post of The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has presented S.S. Dixon Primary School with a $500 donation for the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

SAME is the premier professional military engineering association in the United States and  unites architecture, engineering, construction (A/E/C), facility management and environmental entities and individuals in the public and private sectors to prepare for—and overcome—natural and manmade disasters, and to improve security at home and abroad.

The local Emerald Coast Post of SAME has a mission to promote STEM advancement in our area schools for the development of the next generation of scientists and engineers.  S.S. Dixon intends to use the funds to purchase additional digital microscopes and other supplies for its Science Lab.

Each 2nd grade student participates in the Science Lab.  They attend on a bi-weekly basis.  It is located in a variety of rooms at the school.  The “Science Lady” coordinates with the classroom teacher and provides hands on experiments to enhance the curriculum that is being covered in the classrooms.

Students participate in a wide variety of experiments.   The experiments are aligned so they cover the Common Core National Standards which is part of the College and Career Ready Initiative.
