Alan Orr presents the Avalon Fire Department with a check in appreciation for the efforts of its members in trying to save Orr’s wife. Orr says on May 26, he called 911 when his wife collapsed. Saying she had been ill for a long time, Orr notes the Avalon Firefighters went beyond the call of duty, riding in the ambulance with her, “They fought hard,” he says. His wife did not make it, but Orr says he appreciated the effort so much he wanted to do something to help the department.
