Special to the Press Gazette
Santa Rosa Sunrise Kiwanis President Dewitt Nobles is shown with John Johnson the Executive Director of the Escarosa Coalition on the Homeless, which is one of twenty eight Coalitions in the State of Florida. ECOH was formed in 1987 and was formed to eliminate homelessness by connecting with the homeless and helping to support and lead them in their quest to become independent. He explained that as of this school year, a count was taken on the second day of classes, and they were able to indentify 800 homeless children in schools. Johnson explained many are not counted because the parents fear their children will be taken from them if identified. The children are primary targets for help, for they will grow to be homeless adults. Volunteers are always welcome and can contact Escarosa Coalition on the Homeless in Pensacola. Santa Rosa Sunrise Kiwanis welcomes all to their Wednesday 7 a.m. meeting at Tanglewood Golf Course where breakfast is served.
