Bagdad man faces 30 years after conviction

Maloney Conviction

A Bagdad man was convicted of sexual battery by a person in familial or custodial authority by a Santa Rosa County Jury Wednesday, Sept. 11, according to the state attorney's office.

Russell Maloney, 34 of the 4200 block of Rice Road, was arrested April 30, 2012 after a 14-year old victim disclosed to her youth pastor that Maloney engaged in sexual intercourse with her at his home in Bagdad.

During a videotaped interview, Maloney admitted to investigators that he had sex with the child.

Circuit Judge John Simon scheduled sentencing for Oct. 22, 2013, ordering Maloney to remain in the Santa Rosa County Jail until that time. Maloney faces a maximum of 30 years state prison.

The case was investigated by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Children and Families. Assistant State Attorney Stephanie Pace prosecuted the case for the state.
