The employees of Santa Rosa County are seeking a salary increase. The last time an employee of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office saw a salary increase was in 2007.
Since 2007 budgets have been cut, expenditures have been closely monitored and employees have been fiscally responsible as well. What has been deemed as “Doing More with Less” has become “Doing Less with Less”.
After the County Administrator looked at the proposal of giving employees a salary increase of only 3%, the cost was determined to be $18 per $100,000.00 of taxable value. If you own a home of $100,000.00 your tax increase will only be $18 to fund a County wide employee salary increase.
Within the Sheriff’s Office, these budget cuts have been difficult. The majority of civilian employees were laid off in July 2008 in order for Sheriff Hall to meet his budgetary requirements of that year. This required Deputies to take on additional responsibilities that were previously held by civilian personnel. Deputies who normally work 40 hour work weeks have also taken on additional jobs just to keep up with the cost of living. This can be as much as 30 hours per month.
