As the summer boating season draws to a close, now is the perfect time to take a boater’s safety class. US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-8, “Guardians of the Blackwater”, in partnership with the City of Milton Fire Department, will offer About Boating Safely, their premier boater safety class at the City of Milton Fire Department on Saturday, September 14.
This 8-hour class covers basic legal requirements for boaters, boating safety, elements of boat handling, as well as how to handle some common boating emergencies.
There is an examination at the end of the class. A passing score will make the boater eligible for a State of Florida Boating ID card, a requirement for boaters under 25 years of age to operate a boat alone in state waters.
The class will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, in the Training Room of the City of Milton Fire Department, 5321 Stewart Street in Milton.
The class materials cost $35 per person, or $35 per family (up to 4) sharing a book. To register or for questions, contact FSO-PE Jerry Damico at 791-1266.
