Woman arrested for DUI charged with trying to steal deputy's patrol car

Okaloosa County – A Laurel Hill woman arrested for DUI last night now faces numerous additional charges after trying to take off in an OCSO patrol car.

In addition to DUI, 24-year old Sara Ashley Kirksey was arrested Monday night for battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, providing a false name to a law enforcement officer, and escape.

The deputy pulled Kirksey over on Perry Avenue after spotting her running a red light around 7:30 p.m. on Okaloosa Island. She was arrested for driving under the influence and placed into the back of the patrol car.

Kirksey managed to slip out of her handcuffs and climb through the divider window to slide into the driver’s seat. As the deputy prevented her from taking off, she hit him several times with a closed fist.

Kirksey also had given the deputy a false name and date of birth during the initial traffic stop.
