Pace man extradited on sexual battery charges

A Pace man was picked up by the US Marshal's Task Force this week and extradited to Mississippi to face sexual battery charges.

That's what officials with Biloxi Police Department are saying. Criminal Investigations Sgt. Chris Deback says Robert Emmet Hegarty II, 24, Brookside Dr., Pace, has been arrested and had an extradition hearing in Florida last week. He is now in Biloxi under $100,000 bond, set by a judge there.

Deback cites ongoing investigation and due to the nature of the crime, will not release any further details about the accusations.

He did say the alleged sexual battery occurred on July 27 in Biloxi. Following that date, he says Hegarty returned to Florida. Warrants were obtained in Mississippi and according to Dominic Guadagnoli of the US Marshal's Service, Biloxi police came to Florida to arrest Hegarty with assistance from the task force.

Hegarty remained in the Harrison County, Mississippi jail at press time.
