FIND YOUR WAY INTO SCOUTING ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2013 AT 6:30 PM at your LOCAL PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Escambia and Santa Rosa County FL Public Elementary Schools September 10, 2013 at 6:30 PM – For almost 103 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to â—¾Try new things. â—¾Provide service to others. â—¾Build self-confidence. â—¾Reinforce ethical standards. While various activities and youth groups teach basic skills and promote teamwork, Scouting goes beyond that and encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals. It is communicated to them that those in the Scouting family care about what happens to them, regardless of whether a game is won or lost. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Scouting promotes activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Do you have a 1st grader… Tiger Cubs is a year-round family- and home-centered program that encourages the ethical decision-making skills for first grade (or 7-year-old) boys. These boys participate in the program with their adult partners. The program emphasizes shared leadership, learning about the community, and family understanding. Do you have a second or third grader… Cub Scouts is a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for boys in the second through fifth grade (or who are 8, 9, and 10 years old). Activities emphasize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Webelos Scouts is a year-round family- and home-centered program that develops ethical decision-making skills for fourth- and fifth-grade (or 10-year-old) boys. Here are some other questions that you can ask your son to see if he should be in Cub Scout. If he answers yes to any of these questions then Cub Scouts is where he needs to be. Do you want to go CAMPING? Do you want to go FISHING? Do you want to SHOOT BB GUNS AND BOWS AND ARROWS? I know that he said yes to one of those so we will see you at the Cub Scout Recruitment Night on September 10, 2013 at 6:30 PM at YOUR LOCAL PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
