Milton High School – located on Stewart St. at Munson Hwy. – was struck Wednesday afternoon by a vehicle, just before 3 p.m.
The call went out as vehicle versus building. When emergency responders arrived, they found a gold Lexus embedded into the side of Milton High School.
Three people were inside the vehicle, the two in the front seat were trapped by the crash. Blood could be seen on the driver's airbag. Milton Fire Department firefighters help to free the injured while they were checked for injuries by personnel from Lifeguard Ambulance, who later transported them to an area hospital.
Santa Rosa School Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick arrived on scene just minutes following the crash. Walking inside the cafeteria, he marveled at how far the debris field from the crash traveled in the currently empty room. Two people – part of a maintenance crew inside the cafeteria when the crash occurred – were not serious injured. Officials with the school board said they believe one person received a minor scratch.
As Milton police sorted out the details outside, Wyrosdick said from inside the cafeteria he planned to do the only thing they could do. "Patch it up and get ready for school."
With only five days until the first day of school, officials said how grateful they were that this accident happened before school began.
"We are lucky no students were here," Wyrosdick said.
