Robert Todd Crutchfield, 42, Milton, was arrested Saturday by the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office, charged with obscene communications – using a computer to seduce/solicit/lure child.
Crutchfield, a King Middle School teacher, is currently being held at the Santa Rosa jail.
The arrest followed an investigation that reveals Crutchfield "friended" a 14-year-old former student on Facebook and struck up instant messaging conversations that made the girl uncomfortable, according to reports. The girl told a probation officer whom she knew, about the conversations and the probation officer then took over the conversation with Crutchfield and notified Sheriff's officials.
The conversations became sexually explicit over the cell phone text messaging, according to Sheriff's reports. After Crutchfield asked for a photo of the girl, reports say one clothed shot of the juvenile was sent to him. Crutchfield continued by asking for more explicit photos of her, officials say. No additional photos were sent, according to investigators. At some point in the communications, Crutchfield allegedly told the girl to delete copies of text messages and Facebook messages.
Using the text messaging, Crutchfield continued to talk to the teen and arranged a location to meet in Pace. With Sheriff's Officials and FDLE agents lying in wait, Crutchfield was arrested in the restroom at the Floridatown Park where he had gone to meet the juvenile, according to arrest reports.
After his arrest, Crutchfield told deputies the girl was a student of his and that he had other conversations with juveniles, "advising them to delete the content of the conversations, because he was fearful someone would get in trouble," according to the arrest report.
Crutchfield is charged with three counts of obscene communication- using an electronic device to lure a juvenile for illegal activity; and one count obscene communication – traveling to meet after using computer to lure child. He is being held on $1,000,000 bond.
Santa Rosa School Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick says his office was made aware of the situation.
"The number one goal of the school system is student safety," he says.
Wyrosdick is meeting with staff today to determine the next step regarding Crutchfield. A statement will be released later today.
