Early disaster preparedness is key

Even though we are still experiencing winter weather it is not too early to begin thinking about hurricane season. As Floridians, we cannot plan as if it won’t happen; we must plan as though it will happen.

As you prepare to gather information for articles and special inserts on Hurricane Season, please keep in mind that the Department of Financial Services, Division of Consumer Services provides a Disaster Preparedness website with useful resources such as:

The Division operates a toll-free Consumer Helpline at 1-877-My-FL-CFO (693-5236) Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for consumers to call for help with questions regarding their insurance coverage or how to shop for coverage.

For you and your readers, our online Insurance Library is a resource for up-to-date information on 26 lines of insurance, and our OnDemand Library provides additional educational videos on a variety of financial and insurance topics.  You can advise clubs and organizations in your community that they can use these videos as an educational offering to members during meetings.

If you would like to schedule an interview or have questions about our resources, please contact Leila McClure at 413-5867.
