Blues guitarist J. B. Lawson’s Dizzy Juke Band will be featured performers at the Thursday April 18 Christopher’s Concert sponsored by St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 3200 N. 12th Avenue. The concert begins at 6 p.m. and is held on the church lawn. Patrons are asked to bring lawn chairs and snacks, if desired. There is a concession stand also available with sandwiches, hot dogs, soft drinks and ice cream for sale.
Bluesman/ guitarist/ vocalist J. B. Lawson is a native of Georgia. After he served in the Air Force, he settled in Orange, New Jersey with his family and began his musical career in that area. He came to the Fort Walton area about a year ago and has been performing with his group throughout the Central Gulf Coast since that time. The group has been popular with the Jazz Society’s Blue Monday program at Five Sisters Café and were most recently featured in concert with downtown West Florida Library’s American Popular Music series. Other members of the group are pianist Joe “Fingas” Fuller, a retired school counselor; bass guitarist and manager Randy Bridges, a retired Air Force Officer and businessman; drummer Warren Hontz, design engineer with Baskerville- Donovan. Steve Floyd, Christopher’s Concerts committee member said, “We are pleased to have this outstanding group on our concert schedule. Audience members will be pleased with the blues stylings of Lawson’s group. Lionel the Showstopper will have the audience singing, dancing and enjoying themselves.
This is a change in the original schedule. “Not Quite Fab”—the Beatles cover group will perform on Thursday May 16.
This is the seventh annual presentation of St. Christopher’s concert series. It was presented for the first five years as “Summer Serenade” with events on Wednesdays in June and July. Last year the event was moved to April and May and renamed “Christopher’s Concerts.” When it was announced last year that “Evenings in Olde Seville Square” would be discontinued, the Christopher’s Concerts decided to move their events to Thursday evenings.
