A 62-year-old man shot himself in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest Monday evening, according to a news release from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies spotted Morris Junior Green driving in Navarre around 4:15 p.m. and attempted to pull him over. Morris was involved in a traffic incident the day before and was wanted for an active arrest warrant after eluding apprehension, the release said.
Green drove to an area home and parked his vehicle in an attempt to hide from deputies, the release said.
When deputies found him and approached him to make contact Green discharged a rifle, shooting himself. No deputies were injured during the incident.
Green was taken to an area hospital. His condition is not known at this time, the release said.
