Child drinks drain cleaner from sippy cup – intended to make methamphetamine – in critical condition
A little boy is at Sacred Heart Hospital in critical condition after drinking what is believed to be drain cleaner from a "sippy cup" left near the bathroom sink, according to Sheriff's reports.
The man who allegedly left it there sits in the Santa Rosa County Jail, charged with numerous drug crimes and cruelty toward a child and child abuse with great bodily injury.
Jonathan Wayne Glass, 36, Milton, is being held on no bond. The mother of the child, Victoria Cain, 27, was also charged – with child neglect causing great bodily harm. She has been released from custody, according to jail records.
Deputies say it took 30 minutes for medical assistance to arrive because the pair failed to call 911 for help right away after the child ingested the drain cleaner. Officials believe the drain cleaner was in the apartment for the purposes of making methamphetamine.
A search warrant from Santa Rosa County Sheriff's officials was served on the home of Glass at Pineywoods Place Apartments in Milton. Items found in the house include many kinds of pills without a prescription.
Glass was charged with three counts (misdemeanor) of drugs-health or safety, possession of harmful new legend drug w/o prescription; four counts (felony) possession of controlled substance w/o prescription; possession of opium or derivative-trafficking 4 grams to under 30 kilograms (felony); one count drug equipment possession and/or use.
Sheriff’s officials have arrested four people believed to be involved in producing meth during this same incident. Debbie A. Harris; John Q. Adams; Justin E. Godwin; and Ronnie E. Olson have been arrested, each charged with one felony count of possessing drugs and one felony count of producing drugs. Bond on each person is $100,000.
