Driver succumbs to injuries

David M. Kicker, 63, Repton, Alabama, has died from injuries incurred in a traffic accident on Jan. 23.

The Florida Highway Patrol announced tonight that Kicker succumbed one week (Jan. 31) after being involved in a three-car accident at Hwy 87 and County Road 399 North.

Kicker was driving a 2010 Ford Explorer north on SR87 when two cars ahead of him stopped for a turning vehicle.

FHP says Kicker failed to stop but swerved the vehicle toward the shoulder to avoid a collision. The front left of his vehicle struck the back right of a 2006 Honda Accord, driven by Orion Wayne Motsco, 20, of Jay.

Motsco’s vehicle was sent into a counter-clockwise rotation and made contact with the left rear of a third vehicle – a 1998 Chevy 1500 truck, driven by John P. Miller, 47, of Robertsdale, Ala.

After impact with Motsco, Kicker's vehicle continued into the ditch. FHP reports Kicker's vehicle had only one tire on the pavement, causing it to rotate counter-clockwise and complete a full barrel roll in the ditch before landing on all four tires.

Kicker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to FHP. The two other drivers, Motsco and Miller, were wearing seatbelts and sustained no injuries from the crash.
