"This was not what I was told about the neighborhood by the real estate agent when we rented the house."
Those were the words of Brandy Heath, who lives on the corner of Santa Villa Dr. and East Avenida de Golf Wednesday morning following gun shots at the intersection in front of her home around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Deputies were called to the intersection after receiving reports of several vehicles being present at the intersection and three to four shots reportedly being fired.
Heath talked about the situation, but she is not happy about the environment of the neighborhood as of late.
"You might see a deputy drive through and then not see one for another two weeks," Heath said. "Since last night I have counted four or five that have driven through here.
"In a way I don't even feel safe in my own house since a bullet could come through one of our windows."
According to Sgt. Scott Haines with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office the victim stated he had been shot at and his vehicle had a bullet hole through the driver's side window.
The man, who had his two granddaughters inside, where returning from a basketball game when he sustained injuries to his arm from the broken glass. He was taken transported to West Florida Hospital for X-Rays and evalusation.
According to Hanes the man was later released.
Haines indicated the victim was not the intended target, but merely driving by when the incident occurred.
One man, who was driving in the area, but not involved, was injured and transported by another car to receive medical help after a bullet went through his driver's side window.
So far no further information has been made available by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.
"At first I thought a car might have backfired," said Renee' Tima-an, who lives in a home at the intersection. "I didn't run to the window when I heard the noise.
"We have problems with speeders, but this is something that just doesn't happen here."
Haines indicated evidence was collected at the scene and several interviews have been conducted.
"Investigators are making substantial progress, but no arrest have been made at this time," Haines said.
Heath, who has two children, expressed concern over her children's safety.
"My son won't ride his bike in the neighborhood anymore because he almost got run over by a speeder," Heath recalled. "A truck tried to round the corner so fast they almost hit him while he was riding his bike on the sidewalk."
The sidewalk Heath was referring to is off the roadway on the south west side of Santa Villa Dr.
"At first I thought it might be a kid with a firecracker or a car backfiring when I heard the two noises, while I was folding laundry," Heath said. "Then my daughter and my son told me about hearing a woman scream.
"I realized it wasn't a car backfire or a firecracker when I looked outside and saw all the cops."
Prior to Tuesday night's incident Heath had been talking to a friend who use to live in Santa Villa back in the 1980's.
"My friend said this use to be a nice quiet neighborhood when she grew up here in the 1980's," Heath said. "But she told me she wouldn't live here now."
