By winning the 2012 Gulf South Conference Tournament the No. 17 West Florida volleyball team earned the right to advance to the NCAA postseason and will enter the NCAA South Region Tournament as the No. 2 seed, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Sunday.
Two GSC squads advance to the postseason and a rematch of the GSC Tournament final will commence in the first round after Christian Brothers (20-12) earned the No. 7 seed in the region. The teams face each other on Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m. ET in Tampa, Fla., in the Bob Martinez Center as No. 7 Tampa earned the right to host as the No. 1 team in the South Region.
West Florida (26-7) was ranked in the top three of all three preliminary regional rankings, starting as the No. 2 team in the South Region before dropping to No. 3 for the past two weeks despite no losses and jumped back up after winning the GSC Tournament. The Argonauts own a 22-3 in-region mark after defeating North Alabama and the Buccaneers over the weekend.
Last season, the Argonauts’ postseason run was cut short when they fell in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament to Florida Southern 3-2. The deepest UWF has ever made it in the postseason is two separate appearances in the NCAA South Region finals, the last ending in a 3-2 loss to Tampa in 2010.
