United Bank is inviting teens ages 13-18 in Southwest Alabama and Northwest Florida to get creative with their video cameras for a chance to win up to $3,000.
The call for entries opened Thursday for the 2012 Lights, Camera, Save! video competition sponsored by United Bank and the American Bankers Association.
The video contest, part of the ABA's Teach Children to Save program, is a unique competition that encourages youth to use video to communicate the value of saving. United Bank will host the local level of the competition and will select a winner in December to represent the bank. That person will then compete on the national level for a $3,000, $1,500 or $500 U.S. savings bond.
"From YouTube to social media, students today are like artists when it comes to weaving their talent, vision and passion into messages that make a difference,” said Bob Jones, President and CEO of United Bank. “This program lets them use technology to spread a message of lifelong saving in ways that inform and entertain. We are excited to see what our contestants create.”
To compete, teens ages 13-18 should contact their local United Bank branch for a Contestant Entry Packet that can be picked up in person or emailed to them. Contestants will record and submit their 30-90 second video along with all applicable forms during the contest period, which ends Nov. 30.
Official rules and more details on the competition can be found at www.TeachChildrentoSave.com and videos from the 2011 contest can be seen at youtube.com/teachchildrentosave.
Last year's winners received national attention and scholarship offers from colleges that saw their entries.
