The Jay Area Chamber of Commerce met Nov. 5 in the Jay Community Center social hall with lunch being served at noon.
Prior to the start of the meeting, President Jackie Ard asked all to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the invocation by Maxine Ivey.
Following the meal, Ard thanked Heather Stout and Emerald Coast Hospice for the delicious lunch.
The meeting was brought to order and guest were introduced.
Tina Wilson, with Group Health Systems, was given the floor.
Guest speaker, Shannon Ogletree was unable to attend.
Minutes for the October meeting were approved along with the treasurers report.
Mike Avery reported that the Trick or Treat event had a big turnout with everyone having a good time.
Avery thanked all the volunteers and showed pictures of the Halloween Costume Contest winners.
Greer's gave out four gift prizes with the chamber voting to pay for two gift cards to make six prizes in all.
Members voted to pay Escambia River Electric Cooperative for the banner material used in advertising the Trick or Treat event. They also voted to pay for another post office box key.
Members signed up for the 2013 lunches.
Ard gave the Military Affairs report. She stated that the first speaker at the Military Community Update on Oct. 26 was Walt Reese. Reese introduced the Sailors of the Quarter and presented them with their awards.
Commander Ballist was the second speaker and invited everyone to the tarmac to see the 19 USA helicopters representing the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air Force. Also on the tarmac was the Canadian H-3, which was flown down from Halifax, B.C.
Tabled until the next meeting were requests from Covenant Hospice as well as a request for a donation from the Milton NJROTC.
The Town of Jay Christmas Parade will be at 10 a.m. on Nov. 24. The parade will be followed by the first ever Cotton Festival.
The next Jay Chamber meeting will be Dec. 3 in the Jay Community Center with lunch being provided by The Terrace at Ivey Acres.
