Friday the Santa Rosa County Narcotics Unit was preparing to serve two arrest warrants in American Farms.
When they pulled up to the residence at 4949 Hirsch St., deputies saw three fire units trying to put out a barn fire at the same address.
The warrants were for Carl Wayne Abbott, 30 of Milton, and Chasity Alexis Petitt, 30 of Orlando, Fla.
Abbott and Petitt were wanted for methamphetamine related warrants involving numerous pseudoephedrine purchases.
Abbott was also wanted on warrants for a traffic violation and having a bond revoked.
A third suspect was later arrested by deputies following the execution of a search warrant.
Kichrisus Evelyn Petitt, 28, of 4949 Hirsch St., was arrested and charged with possession of a methamphetamine pipe and possession of marijuana.
SRSO Narcotics Deputy Blake Weekley said, "When we arrived we found three fire units on the scene putting out a structure fire and they tip us off to something suspicious involving the fire they were putting out.
"A bag was discovered by fire fighters about five feet behind the shed and everything inside was the components necessary to manufacture methamphetamine."
Units from East Milton, Bagdad, Harold and Skyline fire departments were toned out just before 1 p.m. and had knocked down the brush fire by around 1:30 p.m., but they also had to put out the subsequent barn fire.
Weekley indicated information received by the SRSO Narcotics unit led them to believe Abbot and Petitt were still cooking meth and a check with local pharmacies led to the discovery of several pseudoephedrine purchases by both.
Some of those purchases were on the same day and at the same pharmacies, according to Weekley.
"Back in July of this year we encountered Abbott and his girlfriend Chasity Petitt at an abandoned meth lab site on Airport Rd.," Weekley said. "At that time Abbott turned over a quantity of meth and both were later subsequently charged."
At today fire scene both were taken into custody by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office on the warrants and additional charges are currently pending.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff Sgt. Scott Haines praised the fire fighters who work closely with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office in recognizing items like at today's barn fire in East Milton.
Haines noted that the departments have worked with the Narcotics Unit so they are able to quickly recognize items like today to alert law enforcement.
