Two Milton teens were arrested Wednesday morning following a string of vehicle burglaries on Lakeside Drive.
Shelly Slaton, 19, and Brooke Manning, 18, were arrested and charged with five counts of burglary to vehicles, one count of burglary to a residence, six counts of petit theft, and one count of grand theft. Both remain lodged in the Santa Rosa County Jail with their bonds set at $36,750 respectively.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to Lakeside Drive in reference to a prowler complaint just after midnight Wednesday.
The complainant contacted the Sheriff's Office after motion sensors in the front yard of their home set off an alarm inside the residence.
A deputy drove north on Lakeside Drive from Saint James St. and noticed a bicycle lying on the side of the road near the wood line. The deputy then observed a subject looking and searching a Silver Nissan Titan.
When the deputy walked down the driveway, he identified himself, and the subject got out of the truck and hid behind the door.
The deputy then apprehended Manning without incident.
The report went on to indicate Manning cooperated with officers after being read her rights.
Manning told the deputy that she and Slaton were "burglarizing vehicles and taking money to help a friend pay their probation costs."
Other deputies responded to the area and located Slaton afterwards hiding in a yard on Lakeside Dr.
Deputies recovered property as well as pills that had been taken from cars along Lakeside Drive.
When officers took the two subjects back to their vehicle at the corner of Lakeside Dr. and Saint James St., a pink bag was found to contain multiple packs of cigarettes, candy, loose change, a GPS unit, and two cases with high end women styled sunglasses. Many of the items in the bag were believed to have been taken as well.
The GPS unit was traced back to an individual in Pace.
Manning and Slaton declined to complete a sworn witness statement following their arrest according to the report.
